“Twin Peaks” May Have to Premiere in 2017

Update: Peter Sarsgaard has confirmed that he will not be appearing in “Twin Peaks”.

Sad news for those who were expecting to see Showtime’s third season of “Twin Peaks” in 2016. CBS corporate chief Leslie Moonves has stated that the limited series won’t be hitting the airwaves until 2017. CBS owns Showtime, so this announcement basically comes from one of the main bosses. According to Variety, Moonves explains that the network might use it, “…as a property that will likely drive subscriptions of Showtime’s newly launched standalone broadband offering.”

The original announcement came last year and was met with an explosion of interest and excitement from fans of David Lynch, who is confirmed to be directing all episodes of the revival. The original 2016 premiere date gave Laura Palmer’s statement, “I’ll see you again in 25 years“, which is also exactly 25 years after the original series ended, a strange sense of prophetical forethought.

However, a disagreement between Lynch and Showtime surrounding the budget needed to make the new season not only a reality but something that is on the same level as the original meant that production had to be pushed back.

Filming is currently happening in Washington with Kyle MacLachlan, Balthazar Getty, Robert Knepper, Amanda Seyfried, and Jennifer Jason Leigh all confirmed to appear.
