Enter the World of ‘Warcraft’ (Trailer)

After living in the video game world for over 20 years, the world of Azeroth is being brought to the big screen. A trailer for Warcraft has been released and unveils the basic plot, which show the orcs entering human territory after their own home begins to die. However, the humans are not keen on sharing and it’s up to a few select warriors from each side to try and convince everyone that there can be peace and harmony between the two races.

The official synopsis reads:
The peaceful realm of Azeroth stands on the brink of war as its civilization faces a fearsome race of invaders: Orc warriors fleeing their dying home to colonize another. As a portal opens to connect the two worlds, one army faces destruction and the other faces extinction. From opposing sides, two heroes are set on a collision course that will decide the fate of their family, their people and their home.

While the trailer has a bit of a deja vú thing going on (how many times can we see humans and orcs in skirmishes and fights?), it looks like a really solid fantasy film. The mythos and stories that have been written for the Warcraft universe are pretty damn expansive, so there’s a lot to draw from.

Directed by Duncan Jones (Moon, Source Code) and written by Charles Leavitt and Jones, the film starring Travis Fimmel, Paula Patton, Ben Foster, Dominic Cooper, Toby Kebbell, Ben Schnetzer, Rob Kazinsky and Daniel Wu is a Legendary Pictures, Blizzard Entertainment and Atlas Entertainment production. It will be released June 10th, 2016.
