Adam Wingard is Casting His ‘Death Note’ Adaptation
I can’t believe how much Adam Wingard has grown up.
From directing the micro indie Pop Skull to my A Horrible Way to Die and V/H/S, and then You’re Next, The Guest and Cinemax’s upcoming “Outcast” – shit, he was in talks for Fast 8 – Wingard has really built a name for himself.
Now, he’s casting up his first major studio pic, and has found its female lead for Warner Bros.’ Death Note.
Actress-singer Margaret Qualley (pictured below) has been tapped for the role opposite male lead opposite Nat Wolff.
“The story follows a student who discovers a mysterious notebook that kills whomever’s name is written in it. When the student meets the notebook’s previous owner, a demon bent on ridding the world of anyone it deems evil or useless, he ends up tracked by an Interpol officer investigating the unexplainable deaths of several criminals.“
Wingard is directing with a script by Jeremy Slater (Fantastic Four). Roy Lee, Dan Lin, Jason Hoffs and Masi Oka are producing, with Doug Davison and Brian Witten executive producing.
Robert Eggers (The Witch, Nosferatu) is back later this year with new horror movie Werwulf, and the very first teaser image from the hotly anticipated movie has surfaced tonight.
Oddly enough, this first look comes courtesy of the NBC Store, and it gives us a glimpse at a chilly Winter landscape from the film. Is there a werewolf hiding in the photo? Maybe…
Set in 13th century England, Werwulf sees a mysterious creature stalk the land as local folklore becomes a terrifying reality. The film hits theaters on December 25 via Focus Features.
Robert Eggers recently teased, “It’s the darkest thing I’ve ever written. By far.”
Eggers directs from a script he penned with his The Northman co-writer Sjón.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Nosferatu), Lily-Rose Depp (Nosferatu), Willem Dafoe (The Lighthouse), Ralph Ineson (The Witch), and Bodhi Rae Breathnach (Hamnet) star.
Robert Eggers and Sjón produce alongside Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner for Working Title. Maiden Voyage’s Chris Columbus and Eleanor Columbus are executive producing.
