While it didn’t take the whole weekend, Michael Dougherty’s Yule-themed horror film Krampus bewitched Friday’s audiences the most, generating over $6 million on its opening night. This allowed it to beat such heavyweight titles as The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2” and “Creed” as well as Disney/Pixar’s “The Good Dinosaur“. In fact, Krampus is on its way to earning the number 2 spot for the whole weekend, according to Box Office Mojo.

Look, this is extremely important as it shows that good, original horror deserves and earns support. When something looks good, us horror fans show our love! The fact that it’s PG-13 only helped widen its appeal, something that an R-rating would never have allowed. Creating a scary yet fun movie for the whole family is something that inspires a love of horror and it’s an absolute delight to know that such a movie exists after there not being one for so long.
People like myself had Gremlins growing up. Today’s generation has Krampus. Honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way.
