The world desperately needs more good dinosaur games.
Gamers love monsters. We enjoy collecting them, fighting them, and perhaps most of all, we love being them. Many dinosaurs had a lot in common with monsters, only they actually existed. The exact spot you’re right now was, at some point in time, used as a bathroom by a creature the size of a two story building. The point it, dinosaurs and video games are like chocolate and peanut butter. They make video games better, so we need more of them.
Of the very few good dinosaur games we have available to us at the moment, Ark: Survival Evolved may be the best of them. It’s an open-world survival game, like The Forest with dinosaurs, or The Stomping Land, if it had delivered on its promises.
Ark: Survival Evolved arrives on the Xbox One, through the indie-friendly Game Preview platform — Microsoft’s version of Steam Early Access (Ark can be found there, too) — on Dec 16 for $34.99.
This isn’t a cheap game, but it sounds like it’s worth the premium price of admission. Studio Wildcard, the makers of Ark, have already sold more than 2.5 million copies on PC. The Xbox One and PS4, which it’s expected to come to early next year, should give that a nice boost.
