Sony Files Trademark for Mystery Game ‘Days Gone’

Published

on

I do believe that it’s time again for another round of wild speculation, courtesy of our friends at Sony. The company recently registered a trademark, spotted by DualShockers, with the USPTO for “video game software” with the possibly spooky title of Days Gone. The document has since been pulled down, so everything else we know about this mystery game can be summed up by its Class 41 filing, as that means it’ll have some sort of online component.

The sky’s the limit as far as what it could be. Now it’s time to dream.

It’s likely that this is for one of their first-party teams, and specifically the ones that aren’t already working on something. My hope is that it belongs to the long-rumored PS4 exclusive that had been simmering in the Sony Bend Studio until it finally entered full production last year.

Bend’s project is an enigma to us. We know that it’s something new, and for a long time now there have been rumors floating about that they’ve been hard at work on an open-world survival horror game powered by the Unreal Engine 4.

That would put a smile on my face. What about you?

Legendary Grimdark ‘Warhammer 40,000’ Artist John Blanche Has Passed Away at 78

In the grim darkness of the far future there is only war, but it was a cheerful illustrator from England who helped to define the terrifying war-torn imagery that inspired what we now know as Grimdark (a hybrid genre combining horror with sci-fi/fantasy).

Unfortunately for fans of Warhammer 40,000, Trench Crusade and countless other sources of Grimdark thrills, veteran artist John Blanche passed away this week after struggling with health issues for the past few years.

While the artist retired back in 2023, he leaves us with an enormous legacy of iconic artwork that continues to inspire gamers and storytellers around the world to this very day.

The news is especially gloomy as it was only last year that Daniel Lowman and Napoleon Dynamite himself Jon Heder released The Grim & the Dark: The Search for John Blanche, a documentary following Heder’s exploration of the Grimdark genre culminating in a heartwarming encounter with Blanche in his own home.

Below is one of my favorite pieces by Blanche, his highly influential depiction of Warhammer 40k’s God-Emperor of Mankind on his Golden Throne.

We send our deepest condolences to John Blanche’s family, friends, and fans.
