Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine Picks His Favorite Metallica Song

The rivalry and eventual making up of Megadeth and Metallica is pretty much the stuff of metal legend. For years, the seething hatred that festered between the bands was fodder for god knows how many “news” posts and click-bait headlines.

However, that hatchet has been buried now for a while with both bands happily performing together in events such as The Big Four and playing quite nicely in interviews and news.

The reason I’m bringing this up is because the two bands used to either dog on each other or simply avoid the topic entirely but are now able to chat it up and reminisce on the good times. And to prove that, Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine was recently asked by the LA Weekly what his favorite songs that he wrote from Metallica’s debut album Kill ‘Em All were. Not only did he answer that but he also answered what his favorite Metallica song that he wrote as a whole was!

My favorite? Hmmm. Interesting. Good question. You know, I like “Phantom Lord” and “Metal Militia” because they are very interesting songs. But I think if you were going to go for my favorite Metallica song that I wrote it would probably have to be “Call of Ktulu.” It stands on itself. And when you have a song that can stand on itself without words that’s a big statement.

How fucking cool is it that his favorite song is the horror-themed “Call of Ktulu”? That’s been one of my favorite songs of theirs for a long, long time and I absolutely love that he has such strong feelings for it!
