‘Terminator’ Won’t Be Back Anytime Soon

Published

on

Back in October Skydance Media Chief Creative Officer Dana Goldberg responded to reports that the Terminator franchise was “on hold.”

“I wouldn’t say on hold, so much as re-adjusting,” she explained in regards to the company’s plans to pursue a big-screen trilogy as well as a new TV series announced in late 2013.

The franchise was all but dead until it exploded for all kinds of records in China.

Terminator Genysis only made $90 million here in the States, but pulled in an impressive $350 million overseas.

Paramount Pictures had planned on releasing a follow-up on May 19, 2017. It has now been pulled off the schedule.

This shouldn’t come as a surprise, considering the report from October. And even with the booming success internationally, internally they need to figure out how to bring this franchise back in a way that doesn’t feel stale or behind on the times. Laeta Kalogridis is currently the writer in charge of that.

My suggestion, get historical and tie the Terminator assassins to the murders of great leaders like JFK and Abraham Lincoln.
