The “unknown compelling force” that claimed the lives of nine hikers on Siberia’s “Dead Mountain” in the winter of 1959 is one of the more unsettling real world mysteries we have yet to solve. The Dyatlov Pass incident has resurfaced only a handful of times in the last half century when it’s been used as a “based on a true story” hook by the 2013 horror film Devil’s Pass, and more recently by Polish developer IMGN.PRO for their indie horror game Kholat.
Set years after the event took place, Kholat takes players back to where it all went down. The game takes a non-linear approach to its world design so it can be explored freely and at your own pace. It’s out now on Steam, where it’s also been discounted to $8.60 (reg. $19.99). Otherwise, you can wait to grab it when it hits the PS4 on March 8.
