BREAKING: Johnny Depp Confirmed As Universal’s ‘Invisible Man’?

Breaking news has come out this evening as it’s being reported by Deadline that Johnny Depp, who got his start in acting with his portrayal of Glen in A Nightmare on Elm Street, has been confirmed to play in Universal’s upcoming monster universe revival of The Invisible Man. The A-list actor joins Tom Cruise, who will be in the revival of The Mummy.

The original 1933 film was an adaptation of H.G. Wells’ novel of the same name, which followed Griffin, a mysterious man who managed to make himself invisible but was unsuccessful in finding a way to reverse the process. The film was directed by James Whale and produced by Carl Laemmle Jr., who also produced The Mummy.

Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan are producing and spearheading the revival films, which is clearly one of Universal’s biggest priorities for the next several years. The idea of a MCU-esque world where horror icons interact with one another over several films is extremely exciting, even though it’s been done before. Still, the possibilities are pretty much endless and it’ll be fascinating to see how they pursue these stories and create something fresh and new with them.
