‘Inside’ Remake Takes a Stab At Rachel Nichols

Never underestimate a mother’s protective fury!

Back in October ScreenDaily reported that [REC] writers Jaume Balagueró and Manu Diez, Kidnapped director Miguel Ángel Vivas and producers Adrián Guerra and Núria Valls of Nostromo Pictures (Buried, Red Lights) were joining forces on thriller Inside.

Looking to replicate the commercial success of female-driven genre titles from Spain including The Orphanage, The Others, [REC] and Mama, the film is a remake of 2007 French horror À L’Intérieur.

With EFM now underway in Berlin, THR is reporting that Rachel Nichols, best known for roles in The Woods, P2, Pandemic, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra and Star Trek, will topline the English-language remake.

“Inside follows a recently widowed mother-to-be living in an isolated new home who receives a most unwelcome visitor: a predatory woman who will stop at nothing to snatch her unborn child. Trapped and disorientated, the young mother must unleash all her reserves of strength to protect her baby and survive the night.

Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo directed the original Inside (À L’Intérieur), which we here at Bloody consider to be one of the greatest slasher films ever made. As I said before, it’s shocking that it’s being remade before Dimension could ever put the film on Blu-ray or even release the unrated version featuring several more minutes of gore removed for their Blockbuster release (remember those guys?)

Embankment Films is selling at EFM.

In addition to Leigh Whannell’s upcoming Universal Monsters movie Wolf Man, Julia Garner (The Royal Hotel) has also joined the cast of Weapons, THR has announced tonight.

Weapons is the new horror movie from New Line Cinema and director Zach Cregger (Barbarian), with Julia Garner joining the previously announced Josh Brolin (Dune 2).

The upcoming Weapons is from writer/director Zach Cregger, who will also produce alongside his Barbarian producing team: Roy Lee of Vertigo and J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules of BoulderLight Pictures. Vertigo’s Miri Yoon also produces.

The Hollywood Reporter teases, “Plot details for Weapons are being kept holstered but it is described as a multi and inter-related story horror epic that tonally is in the vein of Magnolia, the 1999 actor-crammed showcase from filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson.”

Cregger was a founding member and writer for the New York comedy troupe “The Whitest Kids U’Know,” which he started while attending The School of Visual Arts. The award-winning group’s self-titled sketch comedy show ran for five seasons on IFC-TV and Fuse. He was also a series regular on Jimmy Fallon’s NBC series “Guys with Kids” and the TBS hit series “Wrecked,” and was featured in a recurring role on the NBC series “About a Boy.”

Weapons will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures.
