Is the ‘Ghostbusters’ Logo Spook IN the Actual Movie?!

GHOSTBUSTERS logo

We’re all over the annual New York Toy Fair, per usual, and just stumbled across something potentially mega. Something that could be Titanic.

Mattel has revealed the first line of Ghostbusters action figures that are to release ahead of Paul Feig’s new film, in theaters July 15h.

While the line includes figures sculpted from the likeness of Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones, the quartet who will be the new Ghostbusters, there’s two spooks also included.

One looks like some sort of fire demon, while the other looks like…

Before the first Ghostbusters even hit theaters in 1984, the marketing team had branded the film with the now famous “No-Ghost Sign” that was created by Michael C. Gross and is based on a no sign in Europe.

The logo was so iconic that it’s now one of the most recognizable in the world.

But where is the ghost featured in the art?

While Harvey Famous Cartoons will say it’s a trademark infringement of “Fatso”, one of the characters in Casper’s ghostly trio (source), the actual spook never appeared in any form in the movies or accompanying cartoons.

Heading back to the Toy Fair show floor, where Toy Ark snapped some shots of Mattel’s new Ghostbusters figures, it looks as though the no-ghost logo has come to life in action figure form.

Yes, there’s fully articulated action figure of the spook from the no-ghost logo, which begs the question, is this famous iconography an actual ghost in Feig’s Ghostbusters film? Or did they just make a really cool figure based on the logo design?

Update: The Ghost’s name is confirmed to be “Rowan.”

I guess we’ll find out soon, but at least we know that Slimer will make an appearance.

As for the other ghost, could it be “SNL” vet Neil Casey who rumored to play the spirit of a murderer (sort of like Wes Craven’s Shocker, actually) who resurrects a ghost army based on historical characters?

Here’s some shots from the floor. The film’s official teaser poster and trailer tease were posted this morning.
