Endnight’s open-world survival horror game The Forest is an exceptionally frightening game that becomes less intimidating as you learn how to survive in its world. I’ve swallowed squirrel hearts, worn the flesh of tiny dragons, curb-stomped all the Bambis, bludgeoned legions of cannibals and set fire to the monstrous pets they keep.
I can’t be sure, but I’m beginning to wonder if I’m the monster in this game.
I don’t mind being evil, I think I make a pretty decent Boogeyman. The problem is my character looks so dorky, and that’s unacceptable when I’m trying my best to instill a deep fear into the hearts of those who eat hearts for breakfast. The latest update for the game has made this less of an issue by introducing craftable bone armor, but there’s clearly more work that needs to be done.
The more destructible structures is a nice touch, but I won’t be fully satisfied until I can build an infinity pool from the tears of woodland critters. I didn’t see that listed in the patch notes, so Endnight’s probably still working on it.
