New to Blu – Week of 3/1/2016
Each week here at Bloody Disgusting we like to highlight some of the new Blu-ray releases hitting shelves across the world. Please note that this isn’t every release for the week, just a few of the ones that jumped out at us.
Fantastic week of releases with the Blu-ray release of Pieces leading the way from Grindhouse Releasing. Plus a ton of good stuff from Kino Lorber. March is starting out with a bang!
US Releases
Pieces (Grindhouse Releasing, Region Free)
Synopsis:
Young co-eds are being cut up by a chainsaw killer on a college campus. The killer is attempting to put together a human jigsaw puzzle made from body parts.
Creed (Warner Bros, Region A)
Synopsis:
A story that finds Rocky Balboa acting as a trainer and mentor to the grandson of his fellow boxing alumni, Apollo Creed.
Gog 3D (Kino Lorber, Region A)
Synopsis:
A security agent investigates sabotage and murder at a secret underground laboratory, home of two experimental robots.
Cop (Kino Lorber, Region A)
Synopsis:
An obsessive, insubordinate homicide cop is convinced a serial killer is loose in the Hollywood area and disobeys orders in order to catch him.
Death Note (Viz Pictures, Region A)
Synopsis:
Light Yagami is a genius high school student who is about to learn about life through a book of death. When a bored shinigami, God of Death, named Ryuk drops a black notepad called a Death Note, Light receives power over life and death with the stroke of a pen. Determined to use this dark gift for the best, Light sets out to rid the world of evil… namely the people he believes to be evil. Should anyone hold such power? The consequences of Light’s actions will set the world ablaze.
The Boy (Scream Factory, Region A)
Synopsis:
An intimate portrait of a 9-year-old sociopath’s growing fascination with death.
Kung Fu Trailers of Fury (Severin Films, Region Free)

Transformations (Kino Lorber, Region A)
Synopsis:
Wolfgang is traveling in outer space when a monster, which he sees as a beautiful woman, appears in his spaceship and makes love with him. Then the ship is forced to land on a planet which is a penal colony. Here he meets Miranda who falls in love with him. A group of prisoners uses him and his spaceship to fly away from the planet. But the monster which is by now inside Wolfgang arouses and only Miranda’s love can save him.
The Rosary Murders (Kino Lorber, Region A)
Synopsis:
A priest is put in a dilemma when the serial killer who has been murdering priests and nuns confesses to him.
Narcopolis (Scream Factory, Region A)
Synopsis:
In the near future, Frank Grieves is a new breed of police officer working in a city where all recreational drugs are legal. When he is taken off a case involving an unidentified corpse, he discovers that legalization has come at a price.
UK Releases
Audition (Arrow, Region A)
Synopsis:
A widowed TV producer is encouraged by his teenage son to remarry before he gets too old. Unable to find anyone suitable, he decides to hold auditions for a false movie in order to test out potential wives. He thinks he may have found the one he is looking for when he auditions a former ballerina, but she seems too good to be true and an investigation into her past reveals a horrific secret.
Compulsion (Signal One Entertainment, Region B)
Synopsis:
Two wealthy law-school students go on trial for murder in this version of the Leopold-Loeb case.
DEATHGASM (Studio Canal, Region B)
Synopsis:
Two teenagers who have started a heavy metal band unwittingly stumble upon an ancient text that contains a musical spell for summoning a powerful demon.
Doc (Signal One Entertainment, Region B)
Synopsis:
A fanatically accurate retelling of the familiar Wyatt Earp/Doc Holliday story in Tombstone, with fascinating character development, stressing such details as the romance between Doc Holliday and Kate Elder, and concluding with a blistering depiction of the gunfight at the O.K. Corral.
Australia Releases
Night of the Creeps (Umbrella Entertainment, Region B)
Synopsis:
In this campy chiller, a college couple in 1959, see an object plummet to Earth like a meteor. The boy accidentally swallows a space-slug that shoots out. In 1986, two freshmen roam the campus and stumble across the corpse of the boy who swallowed the space-slug. Once thawed out, the corpse comes to life.
SeaQuest DSV: Season Two (Via Vision Entertainment, Region B)
Synopsis:
Adventure resurfaces with the return of the Emmy Award-winning seaQuest DSV. Rejoin Captain Nathan Bridger and his crew as they serve as guardians to Earth’s undersea colonies and protect world peace from all threats – both above and below the water. This 8-disc set is packed with all 21 Season 2 episodes and features guest stars Mark Hamill, Dom DeLuise and others. Season 2 continues the incredible, imaginative epic journey.
Quantum Leap: The Complete First Season (Via Vision Entertainment, Region B)
Synopsis:
Scientist Sam Beckett finds himself trapped in time–“leaping” into the body of a different person in a different time period each week.

Vinegar Syndrome Announces New 4K Releases, Including ‘Night School’, ‘Body Snatchers’, and ‘Lady in White’ [Trailer]
Vinegar Syndrome is kicking off July with a trio of newly-announced horror releases. Fans longing for more fleshed-out releases of Ken Hughes‘ 1981 slasher Night School and Abel Ferrara‘s 1993 adaptation of Jack Finney’s Invasion of the Body Snatchers in Body Snatchers are in luck. As are those who have been waiting for Frank LaLoggia‘s 1988 gorgeous Lady in White, which is getting a hefty set of its own. All three releases are up for pre-orders now on the Vinegar Syndrome website.
Previously released on Blu-Ray from the Warner Archive Collection, Night School will receive a 4K UHD upgrade for the first time. Retailing for $42.99, the two-disc set will include a new 4K scan from the original camera negative, and features a special limited edition spot gloss slipcover designed by Ben Marra.

Meanwhile, also previously released on Blu-Ray from the Warner Archive Collection, Body Snatchers is also getting a 4K upgrade. Retailing for $46.99, this two-disc set will also sport a new 4K scan, and comes with a spot gloss hard slipcase + slipcover combo (designed by Adam Maida), as well as including a 40-page perfect bound book.

Lastly, Lady in White, which Scream Factory first released on Blu-Ray back in 2016, will receive a whopping 4-disc set. Retailing for $46.99, the set features a new 4K scan from the original negative, and will come with a spot gloss hard slipcase + slipcover combo (designed by Dylan Haley), and includes a 40-page perfect bound book. In addition, Vinegar Syndrome is including three versions of the film, with the Director’s Cut on 4K UHD.
