I’ve liked what I’ve seen of the new Doom. It looks like it’ll be a bloody good time, and I absolutely cannot wait to mulch demon faces with my shotgun as I make my way through the festering bowels of Hell, clearing out its residents circle by circle. It’s strange then, that a game like this would come with such underwhelming box art.
It’s strange, but it’s not surprising. Shooter games have had an enormously difficult time realizing their audience isn’t singularly interested in buying games that have stoic, gun-wielding soldiers looming over fiery backdrops on their cover art. But let’s save that discussion for another day, because we only have a few days to choose the art for Doom’s reverse sleeve.

I’m very interested in hearing which of the two earned your vote. I’m fond of both, but the “B” cover won it for me. You can’t beat an homage to some of the coolest art I’ve seen for a game. If you’re going to put a soldier on the box, make sure he’s waging a one-man war against the legions of Hell.
Doom arrives on May 13 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
