Late last night, we posted on another site’s report that Tim Burton had allegedly confirmed that Beetlejuice 2 was ready to roll. As news spread like wildfire, Burton’s reps swooped in with a new message to clarify what’s going on.
“Tim Burton did not confirm Beetlejuice 2 as the movie is not in development,” a rep told the site that originally reported the news. “Tim’s focus is entirely on Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children set for a September 30 2016 release and developing Dumbo.”
The latter film is a live-action adaptation of the Disney film, which was announced a year ago.
Even though the rep denies development, Winona Ryder herself spoke about the film. “Um, I think I can confirm it, because Tim Burton…said, ‘Oh yeah we’re doing it and Winona’s going to be in it,’” the actress said on an episode of “Late Night with Seth Meyers”.
So, while the reps have stated that the movie isn’t currently in development, they’re not saying that it isn’t going to happen. Burton simply has two movies that are taking up his time right now and it’s unclear what’s coming afterwards. While last night’s news is exciting, I guess we’re better off not holding our breath. Maybe if we say his name three times he’ll appear?
