In November, Night Dive Studios let us in on their plans to make us love the System Shock series again, and ever since, I’ve been working on clearing the cobwebs in my cavernous heart chasm so when the time comes, SHODAN can go spelunking.
I can’t say that I’ve been too worried about whether or not Night Dive will do the series justice, seeing as the studio has built a portfolio out of honoring classic game franchises like Turok, The 7th Guest and I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream, among others. Unlike those games, however, System Shock is actually being reimagined, in addition to a full-fledged sequel that’s currently being developed by Otherside Entertainment.
With the System Shock remake — not to be confused with the the remaster we got in September — Night Dive Studios promises they’ll “keep the new game true to the classic experience, keeping all the things you loved, while updating the user interface and graphics.”
Head on over to Polygon for an in-depth look at what makes this reimagining so special, and why it’s going to make the world a better place to live when it arrives next year.
