‘The Shallows’: Blake Lively Stranded and Surrounded By a Shark! (Trailer)

THE SHALLOWS via Sony

Survival horror is hotter than ever, but you wouldn’t know it since most are bizarre releases that blend things like sharks and exorcisms.

Even though the Syfy-esque Sharknado‘s dominate the business, there’s still plenty of survival thrillers in the works, such as this new one from Sony’s Columbia Pictures.

Sony is getting behind the shark craze with The Shallows, which has been described as a cross between 127 Hours and Jaws.

In the taut thriller The Shallows, penned by Tony Jaswinski, Nancy (Blake Lively) is surfing alone on a secluded beach when she is attacked by a great white shark and stranded just a short distance from shore. Though she is only 200 yards from her survival, getting there proves the ultimate contest of wills.

While the concept itself is exciting, knowing that it was directed by Orphan and House of Wax‘s Jaume Collet-Serra just adds icing to the cake.

The first trailer, above, is the perfect tease that sets the tone, tension and dilemma Lively’s character faces. It’s sort of like a home invasion movie, only the victim is trapped on a rock instead of in a house. Collet-Serra is going to kill it, I’m sure of it!

And the poster, well, it’s phenomenal. If the film ends up being great, the poster will surely be hanging on a lot of people’s walls.

The Shallows swims into theaters June 29th.
