Each week here at Bloody Disgusting we like to highlight some of the new Blu-ray releases hitting shelves across the world. Please note that this isn’t every release for the week, just a few of the ones that jumped out at us.

Pretty good week of releases. The headliner is easily Bride of Re-Animator which very well may be the Blu-ray of the year!

US Releases

Bride of Re-Animator (Arrow, Region A)

Synopsis:
Herbert West and his reluctant sidekick, Dr. Cain, return for another funny, gory round of bringing back the dead in bits and pieces. This time, West cons Cain into an attempt to rebuild his late girlfriend, using her preserved brain and body parts scrounged from the local hospital. What results is a kind of sideways parody of “The Bride of Frankenstein”…

Village of the Damned (Scream Factory, Region A)

Synopsis:
An American village is visited by some unknown life form which leaves the women of the village pregnant. Nine months later, the babies are born, and they all look normal, but it doesn’t take the “parents” long to realise that the kids are not human or humane.

Suspicion (Warner Archive, Region A)

Synopsis:
Johnnie Aysgarth is a handsome gambler who seems to live by borrowing money from friends. He meets sheltered Lina McLaidlaw on a train whilst trying to travel in a first class carriage with a third class ticket. Only after they are married does Lina begin to discover his true character.c

Only Angles Have Wings (Criterion, Region A)

Synopsis:
Howard Hawks directs Cary Grant, Jean Arthur and Rita Hayworth in this classic story of a group of fearless pilots who fly cargo planes over the Andes and live in close quarters along an oft-fogbound little airstrip. However, their world is suddenly invaded by a stranded showgirl.

Justice League vs Teen Titans (Warner Bros, Region A)

Synopsis:
Frustrated and disillusioned about his work alongside the Justice League, Robin is forced into a new position with a younger super team, the Teen Titans. Readily welcomed aboard, he is immediately intrigued by the mysterious Raven and the unnatural force that looms over them – her father, Trigon – a deceptive being powerful enough to destroy Metropolis by pitting the mighty Justice League against the Teen Titans. With loyalties on the line and lives in the balance, the super hero showdown will pit Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and Cyborg against the likes of Beast Boy, Starfire, Blue Beetle and Nightwing. Only true teamwork will end the threat in this all-new DC Universe adventure!

Destroyer/Edge of Sanity (Scream Factory, Region A)

Destroyer
A prison riot breaks out at the moment of a serial murderer’s execution by electrocution, and his fate becomes indeterminate when the prison is shut down. 18 months later, a team of filmmakers converge on the prison to film a women-in-prison exploitation flick, but find that a certain somebody is disrupting their shooting schedule…

Edge of Sanity
Legendary actor Anthony Perkins (Psycho) “is perfect” (LA Herald-Examiner) as an outwardly rational Dr. Jekyll who rapidly descends into a world of sexual obsession and murder as Mr. Hydeand who may also be Jack the Ripper! A shocking new twist on one of the most infamous crime stories of all time, this terrifying thriller will keep you on the cutting edge of fear! Aftera lab experiment unleashes mysterious fumes, Dr. Henry Jekyll undergoes a horrifying transformationinto a savage alter ego who calls himself “Jack Hyde.” Meanwhile, the depraved killer Jack the Ripper is slicing his way through the alleys of Whitechapel, leaving mutilated streetwalkers in his wake. Heroes Reborn (Universal, Region A)

Synopsis:
Experience the epic 13-episode event series, Heroes Reborn, from Tim Kring, the creator of the global phenomenon, Heroes. Kring creates a wildly imaginative and thrilling new volume in the Heroes universe featuring a host of new characters with startling powers. Shadows in an Empty Room (Scorpion Releasing, Region A)

Synopsis:
An Ottawa police captain searches for the person who poisoned his sister, who was attending the university in Montreal. So desperate is he for revenge that he begin to use his own brutal methods to find the killer. Soon he discovers that not everything is what he thought it was.

UK Releases

Creepshow 2 (88 Films, Region B)

Synopsis:
George Romero and Stephen King return to bring three stories that include a vengeful wooden Native American, a monstrous blob in a lake, and a hitchhiker who wants revenge…and will not die!

Trapped: Season One (Arrow, Region B)

Synopsis:
In a remote village in the east of Iceland, a mutilated corpse is found near the local port, just after the arrival of an international ferry. Andri, the town’s chief of police, starts the investigation about the very unusual crime, while a blizzard soon gets everyone trapped in the area.

Ghoulies (101 Films, Region B)

Synopsis:
Upon returning to his family’s abandoned mansion, Jonathan realizes he has inherited his father’s powers of sorcery, which he uses to unwittingly unleash a handful of demons known as The GHOULIES! The tiny terrors run amok, getting into mischief and killing their unfortunate hosts before Jonathan summons the strength to defeat them…

Ghoulies II (101 Films, Region B)

Synopsis:
The operators of Satan’s Den, a traveling spook house, find out that they have picked up some unlikely hitchhikers when The GHOULIES begin terrorizing the carnival goers at their most recent stop! The creatures are mad after an attempt to kill them, so the beasties go on a rampage through the fairgrounds, ultimately leading to an explosive conclusion…!

Gateway Horror Classic ‘The Gate’ Returns to Life With Blu-ray SteelBook in May

One of my personal favorite horror movies of all time, 1987’s gateway horror classic The Gate is opening back up on May 14 with a brand new Blu-ray SteelBook release from Lionsgate!

The new release will feature fresh SteelBook artwork from Vance Kelly, seen below.

When best friends Glen (Stephen Dorff) and Terry (Louis Tripp) stumble across a mysterious crystalline rock in Glen’s backyard, they quickly dig up the newly sodden lawn searching for more precious stones.
