Night School Studio’s fantastically unnerving supernatural horror game Oxenfree is coming to the PlayStation 4 on May 31.
The story revolves around a group of teens who accidentally awaken some malicious spirits during an island party, allowing the spiritual rabble-rousers to wreak ghostly chicanery on the real world. The quirky premise is as deceptively charming as the game’s clever humor and hand drawn art style — underneath it all is an intriguing mystery that thoughtfully explores life and loss while squeezing some genuine terror out of all the paranormal activity.
In my Oxenfree (PC) review, I compared the game to “a Joss Whedon-directed Scooby Doo special based on an episode of The Twilight Zone.” If that sounds appealing — as it should — then you should definitely check it out.
