Shout Factory Launches ‘Shout Select’

Published

on

Shout Factory, the wonderful company behind Scream Factory, has announced a new addition to their brand called Shout Select. From the sounds of it appears as if this new umbrella will focus on genre movies that aren’t horror, which is terrific news. Scream Factory has done a great job bringing some of the best in horror to Blu-ray in recent years so I’m very eager to see what the company can do for other genre works.

They’ve announced a handful of releases so far including The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across The 8th Dimension (Collector’s Edition) and John Carpenter’s Elvis, which will both be welcome additions. And this is just the tip of the iceberg! Physical media is alive and well!

Check out the Facebook announcement from Shout Factory below:

Today Shout Factory launched an all-new series of film releases called Shout Select. Shout Select shines a light on films that deserve a spot on your shelf. From acknowledged classics to cult favorites to unheralded gems, Shout Select celebrates the best in filmmaking, giving these movies the love and attention they deserve.

Launching with The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across The 8th Dimension (Collector’s Edition), John Carpenter’s Elvis and Midnight Run (Collector’s Edition), we have many more films lined up for the rest of 2016, 2017 and beyond!

backrooms box office Backrooms Digital Release

Are you ready to go back?

After a record-breaking box office run and an extended cut re-release, A24 and director Kane Parsons’ Backrooms is heading home to Digital.

Backrooms will be available to rent or buy this Tuesday, July 14.

In the film, Chiwetel Ejiofor stars in Backrooms as the owner of Cap’n Clark’s Ottoman Empire, who discovers a strange doorway in the basement of the furniture showroom. He sets out to explore the mysterious, liminal space, walking headfirst into a creepypasta nightmare.

Renate Reinsve (A Different Man) also stars in Backrooms.

Will Soodik wrote the screenplay.

I wrote in my review, “Backrooms is at once complex and sparse, but never repetitive. It might be set in 1990, but it effectively captures modern anxieties and isolation in a way that frequently makes your skin crawl. While the journey ultimately loses steam by its cryptic end, Parsons’ visual representation of the human psyche disturbs like no other.”

YouTube prodigy Kane Parsons makes his feature directorial debut based on his creepypasta-inspired video series, which debuted in 2022 and has amassed over 190 million views to date.
