The Makers of ‘Until Dawn’ Are Going Multiplatform

After years of singularly supporting the PlayStation brand, British developer Supermassive Games says it’s no longer interested in exclusively working with Sony. The studio’s last game, Until Dawn, received four BAFTA award nominations, taking home the win for Best Original Property. They’re currently building a standalone on-rails expansion to that game for PlayStation VR, called Until Dawn: Rush of Blood, due in the fall.

“We’ve worked closely with Sony for as long as the studio has been around,” explains Pete Samuels told MCV. “I’ve loved it, they are great to work with and we have a strong relationship with them. I think a lot of the work we do with them aligns well with what we want to do and where we want to go. But yes, we are an independent studio and we are keen, going forward, to bring our games to wider audiences than we have in the past. That’s what we are all about right now, and it’s an exciting time for us.”

The decision will not impact the two virtual reality projects — Rush of Blood and Tumble VR — that Supermassive Games is already making for Sony, but it will impact whatever it is that comes next.
