Japan’s Monstrous Stay Puft Burger Is Made of Marshmallows
The Ghostbusters franchise has always been a merchandising powerhouse, and the upcoming reboot is certainly no exception. In addition to a new line of toys, all sorts of strange, delicious, and nostalgia-inducing snack items have been hitting shelves on the road to the film’s theatrical release, most notably the return of beloved Hi-C beverage Ecto Cooler. Not to be outdone, the fine folks over at Hostess whipped up both Slimer and Stay Puft-themed Twinkies, and you’ll even find a gummy worm-infested “Slimer’s Sour Slushie” at Dave & Buster’s.
But over in Japan, well, that’s where things just got REALLY weird.
Burger chain J.S. Burgers Cafe just released three menu items tied to the Ghostbusters reboot, the most eye-catching of which is a Stay Puft-inspired dessert burger. The mountain-sized monstrosity features a white bun and is jam-packed with both Oreo cookies and toasted marshmallows, topped with melted chocolate and what appears to be some kind of raspberry syrup. Dubbed the “Marshmallow Mad Burger,” the oddball treat gives you an idea of what it’s probably like to take a bite out of Stay Puft – a desire I never quite realized that I’ve long had.
The more traditional “Ghostbusters Burger” is still anything but traditional, as it features a pitch-black bun – similar to Burger King’s recent “Halloween Burger,” which turned America’s poop a concerning shade of green last year. Equipped with beef patties, black olives, anchovy paste, tomatoes, cream, and a hot sauce made with ghost peppers, the “Ghostburgers Burger” is only for those who ain’t afraid of… eating weird things and probably pooping out baby Slimers.
Speaking of Slimer, there’s also a “Green Ghost Shake” to help you wash down your meal, which looks to be a much healthier incarnation of Ecto Cooler. The apple and avocado smoothie includes spinach, kiwi, and green tea ice cream, and comes topped with mini hamburgers that are quite adorable. Sadly, there aren’t any hot dogs in it, so we doubt Slimer would dare touch his lips to that straw. But we’re thinking he’d at least appreciate getting his very own smoothie.
Suddenly, Ghostbusters “slime green” Twinkies just don’t seem so crazy anymore…

Legendary Grimdark ‘Warhammer 40,000’ Artist John Blanche Has Passed Away at 78
In the grim darkness of the far future there is only war, but it was a cheerful illustrator from England who helped to define the terrifying war-torn imagery that inspired what we now know as Grimdark (a hybrid genre combining horror with sci-fi/fantasy).
Unfortunately for fans of Warhammer 40,000, Trench Crusade and countless other sources of Grimdark thrills, veteran artist John Blanche passed away this week after struggling with health issues for the past few years.
While the artist retired back in 2023, he leaves us with an enormous legacy of iconic artwork that continues to inspire gamers and storytellers around the world to this very day.
The news is especially gloomy as it was only last year that Daniel Lowman and Napoleon Dynamite himself Jon Heder released The Grim & the Dark: The Search for John Blanche, a documentary following Heder’s exploration of the Grimdark genre culminating in a heartwarming encounter with Blanche in his own home.
Below is one of my favorite pieces by Blanche, his highly influential depiction of Warhammer 40k’s God-Emperor of Mankind on his Golden Throne.
We send our deepest condolences to John Blanche’s family, friends, and fans.
