Very First ‘Sadako vs. Kayako’ Clip Explains the Resurgence of the “Haunted Tape”

Set to screen at the ongoing Toronto International Film Festival is Sadako vs Kayako (read our review), which pits the horror icons from both The Ring and The Grudge franchises in an epic battle along the lines of Freddy vs Jason.

The first clip has made its way online and shows us how the haunted tape gets back into circulation, while also staging the film’s first death scene – there’s only one problem…the subtitles suggest the tape kills whomever watches it two days after viewing, not seven. Weirdly, I’ve confirmed that it was in fact a creative decision to change the film’s mythology. Strange, I know.

Grotesque director Koji Shiraishi is behind the camera with Mizuki Yamamoto caught in the middle of the two battling horror icons.

After viewing a legendary cursed videotape, Natsumi discovers she has only two days before she will be killed by the demonic entity known as Sadako. The only solution: pitting the demon Sadako against Kayako, an accursed spirit possessing a haunted house where everyone who enters disappears.

Ju-On: The Final, billed as the final Ju-On, opened in Japan last June, while Sam Raimi is producing a re-remake here in the States.
