Did Rockstar Games Just Tease a “Red Dead Redemption” Sequel?
Rockstar Games have just updated their Facebook and Twitter profiles with the following image that features the Rockstar logo on a blood-red background – one that looks incredibly similar to the color scheme used in their promotions for their 2010 masterpiece “Red Dead Redemption”.
Fans of “Grand Theft Auto” will love “Red Dead Redemption”, which is an open world, western action-adventure video game developed by Rockstar San Diego and published by Rockstar Games, Wiki explains. It was released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles in May 2010. It is the second title in the “Red Dead” franchise, after 2004’s “Red Dead Revolver”.
The game, set during the decline of the American Frontier in the year 1911, follows John Marston, a former outlaw whose wife and son are taken hostage by the government in ransom for his services as a hired gun. Having no other choice, Marston sets out to bring the three members of his former gang to justice.
And while the game was already violent enough to warrant talk here on Bloody Disgusting, Rockstar released the expansion, “Red Dead Redemption:” Undead Nightmare” the following October. As a standalone episode, it added a zombie horror-themed single-player campaign, two multiplayer modes, and spooky cosmetic additions to the environments and characters of the open world Western action-adventure game. The alternate timeline story follows the returning protagonist and former outlaw John Marston as he seeks to find the cause and cure for a zombie plague that has infected his wife and son. Marston liberates towns overrun by the undead and assists other non-playable characters with quests along the way (source).
I recently revisited the game on my Xbox One and, even after all of these years, it’s still astounding. It’s telling that the game has somehow avoided becoming dated, which makes expectations sky high for the third game in the franchise. Just how big of an open world could Rockstar pull off now? Will we see another “Undead Nightmare” expansion? Will there be a VR component? I have so many questions, but even more goosebumps.
While Rockstar could be releasing a remastered version of the game, it feels highly unlikely. We’ll report back when we have official news to share.
All of us here at Bloody Disgusting are deeply sad to learn that The Blob director Chuck Russell has passed away at 74 years old.
Russell’s career began with his directorial debut, 1987’s A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors.
The multihyphenate film director, screenwriter, and producer is best known for helming 1994 comedy The Mask starring Jim Carrey, Arnold Schwarzenegger actioner Eraser, and adventure spinoff The Scorpion King. The latter served as the first leading role for Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
The filmmaker left an indelible mark on horror with his ANOES sequel, 1988’s The Blob, and 2000’s Bless the Child.
Russell’s final film credit is 2024’s Witchboard remake starring Madison Iseman (I Know What You Did Last Summer), Aaron Dominguez (Only Murders in the Building), and Jamie Campbell Bower (“Stranger Things”).
It marked Russell’s return to horror after a lengthy hiatus, and he shared sequel hopes to Bloody Disgusting in an interview ahead of the remake’s release: “I got to design the board with real mystical symbols and things that I know represent good and evil, and where that board takes us if the audiences respond to the film, and I hope they will; I know it’s out there for you guys, but the sequel is a world we’ll get to go a little further. That’s sure the intention.”
He also recently expressed interest in returning to the franchise that began his career.
TMZ notes that Russell passed away at his San Diego-area home.
