We Want to Hear Your Spooky Ouija Board Stories!

Ouija

Do you dare play with the board?

The big Halloween horror movie this year is Universal’s board game-based prequel Ouija: Origin of Evil (read our review), which promises to be the rare follow-up film that’s actually better than its predecessor. But we’re not here to talk about movies today. Rather, we’re here to gather around the virtual campfire and invite you to tell spooky stories of your own.

There’s a good chance that at some point in your life you’ve gotten together with friends and played around with a Ouija Board – either a creepy homemade one or, more than likely, one of Hasbro’s mass-produced games that you can pick up at your local Toys R Us. Nothing creepy about a toy you can buy from the toy store, right? Or is there…?

Listen. I’m not sure I actually believe that Ouija Boards can allow one to make contact with spirits on the other side, but at the same time, I’ve gotta be honest: Ouija Boards freak me right the hell out. I own one, but I keep it locked away in the basement because the mere sight of the thing just spooks me. Only a small handful of times throughout my life have I busted it out and messed around with it, and though nothing bad has ever happened as a result, I’m always left feeling a little uneasy as I attempt to drift off to sleep.

I always feel like I’ve invited something in… so I guess I do kind of believe, huh?

My most recent Ouija Board experience was back in 2010, shortly after my wife and I moved into a new house. We had some friends over, and once the alcohol started flowing, we decided to break out the ole “mystifying oracle.” We attempted to make contact with a girl from our high school who had passed away some years before, and though the planchette never moved an inch, the weather took a turn for the worse almost at the exact moment we asked if she was present in the room; the wind became rather violent, and rain began falling.

As soon as we stopped, so did the wind. And so did the rain.

Coincidence? Sure. Probably. But it damn sure freaked us all out.

Maybe there is something to the whole thing…

Do you have any scary Ouija stories? We’d love to hear them!
