“The Walking Dead” Just Paid Tribute to ‘Night of the Comet’!
Further proof that Greg Nicotero is the greatest.
One of our favorite little things about “The Walking Dead” is that executive producer/makeup effects master Greg Nicotero (the man who puts the “N” in KNB EFX) often hides “tribute walkers” in the episodes he directs. What are “tribute walkers,” you ask? They’re zombies that pay tribute to iconic zombies from classic horror movies, of course.
In the past, Nicotero has paid tribute to everyone from Dawn of the Dead‘s Flyboy to Day of the Dead‘s Bub, and he has also homaged films such as An American Werewolf in London, Ghost Story, Tales from the Crypt, Black Sabbath, Shaun of the Dead, and Return of the Living Dead. The most recent “tribute walker” paid loving tribute to Night of the Comet!
As @GNicotero revealed over on Instagram, a walker seen in this past Sunday night’s episode, titled “The Well,” was a direct homage to a zombie seen in the 1984 horror-comedy; the episode, it should go without saying, was directed by Nicotero himself. The film’s zombie can be seen at the top of this post, and you can check out “The Walking Dead” tribute below.

While you wait for Alien: Romulus, the folks over at Devilworks have cooked up their own slice of “mockbuster” fun with Alien Hunt, and we’re debuting the trailer here on BD this morning.
This brand-new sci-fi horror from director Aaron Mirtes (The Bigfoot Trap, Painted in Blood) is set for its US premiere on May 14, and you can find it on digital thanks to Devilworks.
You can exclusively watch the official trailer for Alien Hunt below, which looks to combine elements of Alien and Predator. This particular “mockbuster” has very little interest in hiding its inspirations, with the alien designs plucked straight out of H.R. Giger’s beautiful brain. Hey, if you’re going to pull from other movies, might as well take from the all-time greats!
In Alien Hunt, “On a hunting trip in the wilderness, a group of siblings discovers an abandoned military outpost on their land, but is it what it seems?
“Their trip takes a sinister turn when they find themselves facing off against a relentless army of extra-terrestrial beings. Suddenly, the hunters become the hunted.
