This Crazy ‘Night of the Living Dead’ Poster Is Way Gorier Than the Film

Published

1968. The year that forever changed the horror genre.

Few films in the history of cinema are more influential than George A. Romero’s game-changing classic Night of the Living Dead, which is single-handedly responsible for all things zombie that came in its wake – and yes, that most certainly includes “The Walking Dead.” Prior to the film’s release, zombies were depicted as little more than re-animated slaves, but it was Romero who turned them into the undead, flesh-eating monsters that we know them to be today. So if he’s a little salty about not quite getting the credit for all that, hey, can you blame him?

Brad Pitt didn’t ruin zombies, but Romero sure as hell created them.

In any event, Grey Matter Art just unveiled and put up for grabs a brand new poster that pays tribute to Romero’s Night of the Living Dead, and oh boy is it a looker. The art, done up by the wonderfully over the top Godmachine, brings a splash of color to the black and white film, depicting a gruesome scene that is quite a bit gorier than anything seen in the movie itself.

The 18″x”24 print is limited to 150 and can be purchased over on Grey Matter’s website.

Legendary Grimdark ‘Warhammer 40,000’ Artist John Blanche Has Passed Away at 78

In the grim darkness of the far future there is only war, but it was a cheerful illustrator from England who helped to define the terrifying war-torn imagery that inspired what we now know as Grimdark (a hybrid genre combining horror with sci-fi/fantasy).

Unfortunately for fans of Warhammer 40,000, Trench Crusade and countless other sources of Grimdark thrills, veteran artist John Blanche passed away this week after struggling with health issues for the past few years.

While the artist retired back in 2023, he leaves us with an enormous legacy of iconic artwork that continues to inspire gamers and storytellers around the world to this very day.

The news is especially gloomy as it was only last year that Daniel Lowman and Napoleon Dynamite himself Jon Heder released The Grim & the Dark: The Search for John Blanche, a documentary following Heder’s exploration of the Grimdark genre culminating in a heartwarming encounter with Blanche in his own home.

Below is one of my favorite pieces by Blanche, his highly influential depiction of Warhammer 40k’s God-Emperor of Mankind on his Golden Throne.

We send our deepest condolences to John Blanche’s family, friends, and fans.
