These Horror Movie Wreaths Bring Halloween to the Christmas Season

Published

Why not let the Halloween and Christmas spirits live in harmony?!

December is literally right around the corner which means it’s time for those who celebrate Christmas to start decking their halls, putting up their trees, and untangling that big ole ball of colorful lights. I already did all of these things this past weekend, but no matter how Christmasy I make my home, I’ve come to realize that it’s always going to be dominated by… Halloween decor.

As horror fans, we tend to decorate for Halloween all year round, so why not embrace that to the fullest extent of the law and merge Christmas and horror together? Films like Silent Night, Deadly Night and Black Christmas proved that the two go hand-in-hand surprisingly well, so don’t be afraid to put up those Halloween ornaments and swap out the colored lights for orange ones.

Another fun way you can fuse Christmas and Halloween? Horror movie wreaths!

Several different craftsmen and craftswomen over on Etsy have whipped up horror wreaths for the 2016 Christmas season, and we’ve collected together our favorites below. Underneath each image is a link to purchase that particular wreath; most of them are pretty pricey, but hey, no one said you had to buy them. Maybe you can just use them as inspiration to make your own!

Have you ever made a horror wreath? Drop us a comment with a pic!

Legendary Grimdark ‘Warhammer 40,000’ Artist John Blanche Has Passed Away at 78

Published

In the grim darkness of the far future there is only war, but it was a cheerful illustrator from England who helped to define the terrifying war-torn imagery that inspired what we now know as Grimdark (a hybrid genre combining horror with sci-fi/fantasy).

Unfortunately for fans of Warhammer 40,000, Trench Crusade and countless other sources of Grimdark thrills, veteran artist John Blanche passed away this week after struggling with health issues for the past few years.

While the artist retired back in 2023, he leaves us with an enormous legacy of iconic artwork that continues to inspire gamers and storytellers around the world to this very day.

The news is especially gloomy as it was only last year that Daniel Lowman and Napoleon Dynamite himself Jon Heder released The Grim & the Dark: The Search for John Blanche, a documentary following Heder’s exploration of the Grimdark genre culminating in a heartwarming encounter with Blanche in his own home.

Below is one of my favorite pieces by Blanche, his highly influential depiction of Warhammer 40k’s God-Emperor of Mankind on his Golden Throne.

We send our deepest condolences to John Blanche’s family, friends, and fans.
