Adorable New ‘Trick ‘r Treat’ Vinyl Figure Coming from Mezco

Published

We love you all year round, Sam.

If there’s a horror villain birthed in the last decade who deserves to stand alongside giants like Freddy and Jason it’s undoubtedly the pint-sized Sam, who we met in Michael Dougherty’s Trick ‘r Treat. Granted, he hasn’t yet solidified his status as an icon with sequels, but there’s no denying that Sam is just that: an icon. He’s got toys. He’s got Halloween masks. He’s got comic books. And he’s already tattooed on the bodies of countless horror fans. He’s become a symbol of Halloween, like Michael Myers before him, and we cannot wait for his return in Trick ‘r Treat 2.

But while we wait, a new Sam toy is on its way into our lives.

Courtesy of Mezco comes the “Stylized Sam” vinyl figure, now up for pre-order and expected to begin shipping in either July or August. Yes, you’ll have him just in time for Halloween!

Straight from the cult status film Trick ‘r Treat comes Sam, the enforcer of the rules of Halloween. Part pumpkin, part supernatural being, Sam shows no mercy to those who disrespect his holiday.

This Sam is presented in our signature super-deformed style. He may look child-like and dressed for trick-or-treating, but Sam is the personification of Halloween itself. He stands nearly 6″ tall and features 5 points of articulation. He comes complete with his ever-present trick-or -treat sack, and his half-eaten translucent pumpkin lollipop.

Sam is packaged in a specially die-cut window box suitable for display. Just remember, he can watch you from inside the box, so don’t blow out your pumpkin until midnight.

You can adopt Sam for just $23 over on Mezco’s website!

Legendary Grimdark ‘Warhammer 40,000’ Artist John Blanche Has Passed Away at 78

In the grim darkness of the far future there is only war, but it was a cheerful illustrator from England who helped to define the terrifying war-torn imagery that inspired what we now know as Grimdark (a hybrid genre combining horror with sci-fi/fantasy).

Unfortunately for fans of Warhammer 40,000, Trench Crusade and countless other sources of Grimdark thrills, veteran artist John Blanche passed away this week after struggling with health issues for the past few years.

While the artist retired back in 2023, he leaves us with an enormous legacy of iconic artwork that continues to inspire gamers and storytellers around the world to this very day.

The news is especially gloomy as it was only last year that Daniel Lowman and Napoleon Dynamite himself Jon Heder released The Grim & the Dark: The Search for John Blanche, a documentary following Heder’s exploration of the Grimdark genre culminating in a heartwarming encounter with Blanche in his own home.

Below is one of my favorite pieces by Blanche, his highly influential depiction of Warhammer 40k’s God-Emperor of Mankind on his Golden Throne.

We send our deepest condolences to John Blanche’s family, friends, and fans.
