‘Friday the 13th’ Hires Effects Team; Jason Mask May Be Based On ‘Part 3’

The Crazies director Breck Eisner is the man in charge of bringing Jason Voorhees back to the big screen for this coming October’s Friday the 13th reboot, which begins filming in mid-March. The new film will apparently delve deeper than ever before into Jason’s origin story, and feature sizeable appearances from both Pamela Voorhees, and for the first time, Elias Voorhees.

Casting is underway, and our friends over at F13Franchise are reporting today that Platinum Dunes has just hired Legacy Effects to create the film’s masks, props, and special effects. The company’s notable gigs to date include Shutter Island, Iron Man 2, Thor, The Hunger Games, World War Z, Godzilla, and The Revenant. Needless to say, they know what they’re doing.

But what’s most interesting about the site’s report is that their sources indicate that the company has been tasked with making a Jason Voorhees mask that resembles the original hockey mask that Shelly brought to Crystal Lake in Friday the 13th: Part 3. That mask, worn by Richard Brooker, was heavily yellowed with a handful of scratches and bright red chevron markings.

Sounds good to us!

Eisner is directing with Prisoners‘ Aaron Guzikowski writing the script.

The new Friday the 13th is tentatively set for release on October 13th.
