J.J. Abrams’ ‘Overlord’ Sounds Like “Wolfenstein”!

Published

on

Have you ever dreamed of a feature version of the video game “Wolfenstein”? The closest we ever got was the insanely bloody finale to Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds.

The whole Nazi-scientist subgenre thing never works out. It always comes off cheesy or rings false. The best case scenario is something like iron Sky, you know, where Hitler rides a dinosaur.

It takes a true visionary to deliver something on this scale, which is why it’s pretty damn exciting that J.J. Abrams is getting behind the World War II pic Overlord. It will be produced by his Bad Robot and Paramount Pictures.

Julius Avery, who directed A24’s Son of a Gun is at the helm of Overlord, which was penned by Billy Ray from an idea he had with Abrams. The Revenant screenwriter Mark L. Smith has done a slight polish on the draft with Abrams producing for Bad Robot.

Check out this crazed synopsis:

The story follows two paratroopers who are caught behind enemy lines after their plane crashes on a mission to destroy a German Radio Tower in a small town outside of Normandy during the D-Day invasion. After reaching their target, the two paratroopers come to realize that besides fighting off Nazi soldiers, they also must combat against supernatural forces that are a result of a secret Nazi experiment.

Hopefully casting gets underway ASAP as I can’t wait another second for this…

Jennifer Holland (“Peacemaker”) and Dave Annable (“Lioness”) will lead the cast of upcoming supernatural Civil War thriller Brine, Deadline reports this afternoon.

B.J. Golnick (“Hunting Hitler”) will be directing Brine.

Brine follows a family of Confederate deserters who escape the Union bombardment of Fort Pulaski with a cache of stolen gold and disappear into the Georgia marshlands.

When they take refuge in a remote plantation house, what first appears to be salvation slowly reveals itself as part of something ancient, predatory and impossible to escape.

Jonah Wharton (Lioness), Sissy Sheridan (Chicken Girls), and Grayson Lay (Outer Banks) also star. The screenplay was written by B.J. Golnick and Jeremy Miller.

Brine is a story about survival, but it is also a story about inheritance…The violence we pass down, the myths we create to justify it, and the cost of trying to break free,” Golnick previews.

“We intend for the film to feel intimate, historically grounded and deeply unnerving, as if the supernatural elements weren’t invented, but unearthed from the marsh itself.”
