Here’s Your First Look at Elle Fanning as ‘Frankenstein’ Writer ‘Mary Shelley’

Published

Frankenstein may have created the monster, but Mary Shelley brought them both to life.

THR reports that Saudi filmmaker Haifaa al-Mansour‘s (Wadjda) biopic drama Mary Shelley is being shopped to buyers at this week’s European Film Market in Berlin, and they’ve also provided us with the first-look image of actress Elle Fanning (The Neon Demon) as the literary icon. Granted, this isn’t going to be a horror movie of any kind, but given Shelley’s status as a bona fide icon in the world of horror, we thought it only fair to at least put this one on your radar.

The film tells the story of the author’s early relationship with poet Percy Bysshe Shelley, which resulted in her writing Frankenstein.

Douglas Booth, Bel Powley, Maisie Williams, Joanne Froggatt and Tom Sturridge also star.

Mary Shelley was most notably brought to the screen by Elsa Lanchester in Bride of Frankenstein; Lanchester played the dual role of both Shelley and the titular bride.

Check out Fanning as Shelley below.
