As a kid, I loved “Toxic Crusaders.” I fondly remember playing with the toys, which were colorful, wacky, and fit right in with my Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles toys. Imagine my surprise when I realized, years later, that the kid-friendly animated series was a spinoff of Troma’s gory superhero movie The Toxic Avenger – at one point I loved both, having no idea of their connection!
I’m still not sure how a Troma movie became an animated series, but it happened.
In any event, I bring this up because toy company Super 7, who recently got back their ReAction Figures line from Funko, just unveiled two upcoming Toxic Avenger ReAction Figures at New York’s Toy Fair. The retro-style figures both depict lovable hero Toxie, and what’s cool here is that Super 7 made two different versions: one based on the film, and one based on the cartoon.
Movie Toxie is green and drab, while cartoon Toxie is bright and colorful.
