Check Out a Bonus Features Clip from Vestron Video’s ‘The Gate’ Blu-ray

The new Blu-ray arrives on February 28th, 2017.

As much as I love what companies like Scream Factory, Arrow Video, and now Lionsgate’s Vestron Video have been doing in recent years, I’ve gotta be honest: though I desperately want them all, I just can’t afford too many of these new Blu-ray releases. They tend to be a bit on the expensive side, after all. That being said, there are some movies that I will buy no matter the cost.

And 1987’s The Gate is one of those movies.

It’s headed to Blu-ray for the very first time next week courtesy of Vestron Video, and ahead of the release comes a clip from one of the included special features. In the brief clip, makeup and creature effects creators Craig Reardon and Randall William Cook provide behind the scenes insight into one of the film’s coolest scenes, which totally blew my mind as a kid.

Check it out below.

In The Gate, which starred a young Stephen Dorff:

After an old tree is removed from the ground, three young children accidentally release a horde of nasty, pint-sized demons from the hole in a suburban backyard. What follows is a classic battle between good and evil as the three kids struggle to overcome a nightmarish hell that is literally taking over the Earth.

Here’s everything you need to know about the release:

When best friends Glen (Stephen Dorff) and Terry (Louis Tripp) stumble across a mysterious crystalline rock in Glen’s backyard, they quickly dig up the newly sodden lawn searching for more precious stones. The teenagers soon understand what evil they’ve released as they are overcome with an assortment of horrific experiences. With fiendish followers invading suburbia, it’s now up to the kids to discover the secret that can lock The Gate forever . . . if it’s not too late.
