We are beside ourselves this morning, as the family has reported that acting legend Bill Paxton, just 61 years old, has unexpectedly passed away due to complications from surgery.
With his undeniable screen presence, Paxton has brought to the screen some of the most memorable characters in the history of the horror genre, perhaps most notably the bug-hunting, wise-cracking Private Hudson in James Cameron’s Aliens. Just one year later, Paxton portrayed Severen in Kathryn Bigelow’s Near Dark, another show-stealing, larger-than-life character bursting with personality. Paxton’s other genre credits include The Terminator, Predator 2, and my personal favorite “Tales from the Crypt” episode, ‘People Who Live in Brass Hearses.’
Paxton made his directorial debut with horror film Frailty, which he also starred in.
Nominated for four Golden Globes and a Primetime Emmy, the beloved actor spent his decades-spanning career injecting life, personality, and charm into countless films and television series’. Who could ever forget his performances in Weird Science, One False Move, Tombstone, True Lies, Twister, Titanic, A Simple Plan, “Big Love”… the list goes on and on.
All of us here on BD send our thoughts, prayers, and condolences to Bill Paxton’s family and friends at this tragic time. To say he’s gone too soon would be a massive understatement.
