Yes, the director of Evil Dead and Don’t Breathe is directing the follow-up to David Fincher’s The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. And it’s going to be WAY different than Fincher’s film.
Sony just announced that director Fede Alvarez’s The Girl in the Spider’s Web, an adaptation of the fourth novel in author Stieg Larsson’s Millennium series, will begin production in September and is currently set for theatrical release on October 5th, 2018. So what makes this one so much different? Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig will not be reprising their roles.
The studio is said to be launching a global search for a new actress to play Lisbeth Salander, portrayed by Noomi Rapace in the Swedish film and Rooney Mara in its American remake.
“I’m hugely excited and grateful for this opportunity,” said Alvarez. “Sony has become family to me and I can’t think of a more thrilling project to celebrate our relationship. Lisbeth Salander is the kind of character any director dreams of bringing to life. We’ve got a great script and now comes the most fun part — finding our Lisbeth.”

Together they are drawn into a ruthless underworld of spies, cybercriminals, and government operatives—some willing to kill to protect their secrets.
Alvarez co-wrote with Steven Knight and Jay Basu. David Lagercrantz wrote the novel.
David Fincher will executive produce the new film.
