‘Shin Godzilla’ Team Created Badass New Kaiju for Japanese Commercial

This commercial is my favorite movie of 2017.

We all love giant monsters, but nobody loves them more than the Japanese. The home country of Godzilla and other Kaiju icons was just hit with a tourism campaign that might as well be the trailer for the next great Japanese monster movie. Produced by the Kitakyushu Sightseeing Association, it’s an add for the Kanmon Straits, a locale known for its powerful currents.

How do you draw tourists to the area? With a giant monster, of course!

The brilliant ad, which runs over two-minutes long (it’s basically a short film), gives rise to Kaisendon, a brand new monster created by the visual effects team responsible for the incredible visuals in Shin Godzilla. The 751-foot monster rises up from the Kanmon Straits and everyone in the area starts to fear for their lives. But that’s where mother nature comes into play.

Remember how I said the Straits have an incredibly powerful current? Well, it’s a battle of monster vs. nature in the brilliant campaign ad… and I’m pretty sure you can figure out who wins.
