Universal Hires ‘Aquaman’ Writer for ‘Creature from the Black Lagoon’ Remake

Well, that actually seems fitting.

Deadline is reporting tonight that Universal Pictures has nabbed Will Beall to revive 1954’s Creature from the Black Lagoon for the new shared monsters universe that will begin with this summer’s The Mummy. Beall, as noted in the headline, wrote James Wan’s upcoming superhero flick Aquaman, which centers on a sea-dwelling character of another kind.

In the ’54 classic, directed by Jack Arnold…

A strange prehistoric beast lurks in the depths of the Amazonian jungle. A group of scientists try to capture the animal and bring it back to civilization for study.

Following The Mummy, Universal is also planning on eventually rebooting Van Helsing, The Invisible Man, The Wolf Man, and Bride of Frankenstein.

Chris Morgan and Alex Kurtzman, the architects of the universe, will produce.
