Robert Englund Admits He Stole the Original Freddy Glove

Published

The plot thickens. But this may be the final word on the subject.

Fans have for years been speculating on the whereabouts of the original Freddy Krueger glove seen in the original A Nightmare on Elm StreetI’ve long heard that it was stolen from the set by a crew-member, and I’ve also heard that the glove that makes a cameo appearance in Evil Dead 2 is actually that original (stolen) glove. But what’s the true story behind all the speculation?

During a Q&A panel at this past weekend’s Monsterpalooza convention, Robert Englund told his own story about the glove. As relayed by iHorror, it was Englund himself who took it!

Englund admitted to the fans in attendance:

The original glove was given to me by Wes for pickup shots on Nightmare 2, in a little MTV stage on Santa Monica Blvd in Hollywood. And I went to work, and there was this huge rumor about industrial espionage. Guys pretended to be crew members on the pickup shot day, in this little studio on Santa Monica Blvd, and they wore tool belts and everything – they were there to get the glove. And we heard about this, Kevin Yagher told me this. So, I stole the real glove. I just took it. I didn’t know it came from Wes, I know it now, but I stole it that day. There were like a couple of doubles, but I stole the original glove. I stuffed it, and I outlined it in red and green neon, and I floated it in a plexiglass box, and I gave it to my agent. He won’t give it back!

Now what’s real interesting about all this is that there’s a fan by the name of Mike Becker who has for many years been claiming to own the original Krueger glove that Englund swears to have stolen and gifted to his agent. So it would seem that either Becker or Englund’s agent actually has one of the stunt gloves and is under the false impression that it’s the hero glove.

Personally speaking, I’m much more inclined to believe that Robert Englund knows which is which. After all, he’s the only person who actually wore the gloves on a day-to-day basis.

Now we just need some pictures…

Renate Reinsve (A Different Man) also stars in Backrooms.

Meagan wrote in her review, “Backrooms is at once complex and sparse, but never repetitive. It might be set in 1990, but it effectively captures modern anxieties and isolation in a way that frequently makes your skin crawl. While the journey ultimately loses steam by its cryptic end, Parsons’ visual representation of the human psyche disturbs like no other.”

YouTube prodigy Kane Parsons makes his feature directorial debut based on his creepypasta-inspired video series, which debuted in 2022 and has amassed over 190 million views to date.
