The Overlook Film Festival is well underway in Denver, Colorado, where out very own Kalyn Corrigan will be on site bringing us news, reviews and more throughout the weekend.
Very late last night, following the world premiere of Blumhouse’s Stephanie, Jason Blum and director Akiva Goldsman announced that they’re collaborating once again on a remake of Stephen King‘s Firestarter for Universal Pictures. Goldsman will be co-writing the screenplay with Scott Teems (Rectify).
Released in 1984, Mark L. Lester directed the first adaptation about a couple who participated in a potent medical experiment who gain telekinetic ability and then have a child, played by Drew Barrymore, who is pyrokinetic.
A miniseries follow-up to the film, entitled “Rekindled”, was released in 2002 on the Sci-Fi Channel.
I know many readers here on Bloody are anti-remake, but what about Firestarter? Ater Joe Begos’ The Mind’s Eye, I’m dying for a big-budget telekinesis horror film!
