Don’t let Ariel fool you. Mermaids are scary.
Given how popular underwater creatures are in the world of horror, you’d think that the scary side of mermaids would’ve been explored more often by the genre over the years. Alas, there are very few mermaid horror flicks out there. But that may be changing.
Earlier this year, IFC’s The Lure hit VOD outlets, centered on cannibal mermaids with a hunger for human flesh. And Freeform’s Siren,” premiering in Summer 2018, has a similar premise. In the series, “the battle between man and sea takes a very vicious turn as predatory mermaids return to reclaim their right to the ocean.”
On a related note, makeup artist Channing C. Judith just turned herself into a mermaid for a transformation photo that he’s been making its way around the net and freaking everyone out, and we wanted to share her incredible handiwork with you. “Got bored last night and turned myself into a mermaid,” Judith tweeted out, attaching a photo of her gnarly creation. Mermaid body horror. We love it.
