This ‘Toxic Avenger’ Spoof Poster Was Almost in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’!
James Gunn’s love for Troma runs deep.
It’s always awesome when filmmakers become hugely successful but don’t leave behind their horror roots, and James Gunn is damn sure one of those filmmakers. Before directing Guardians of the Galaxy and this year’s sequel, Gunn got his start penning Tromeo & Juliet for Troma, and he paid tribute to those humble beginnings by giving Troma’s Lloyd Kaufman a cameo in the first Guardians. As for the sequel, its Troma homage was left on the cutting room floor.
As Gunn recently explained, there was originally going to be an Earth-set scene that showcased a Simon Williams/Wonder Man film festival, with Gunn’s friend Nathan Fillion playing the character for a handful of faux movie posters that would’ve been featured in the scene. Since they were cut, Gunn just took to Facebook to reveal all of the faux posters, one of which pays hilarious tribute to Troma’s The Toxic Avenger.
