Here’s the Retro Poster for ‘Behind the Mask’ Universe Short ‘Wait for It’
Fan favorite meta slasher Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon is finally getting a follow-up in the form of comic series Before the Mask: The Return of Leslie Vernon, which was successfully fan-funded earlier this year. But as we recently told you, it’s not the only thing going on in that horror universe.
David Stieve, the writer of Behind the Mask, will be making his directorial debut with upcoming short Wait for It, set in/near the fictional town of Glen Echo. In other words, it’s an original story that takes place in the Behind the Mask universe!
Wait for It is described as…
A loving deconstruction of the slasher genre, this time from the perspective of Survivor Girl named Darcy who’s living in the aftermath of her own encounter with a Leslie Vernon type killer. We follow her as she travels home after a night out with friends, always remaining wary of the inevitable return of her tormentor.
“It’s a fun story, one that the thinking horror fans will appreciate,” Stieve recently explained to us. “When I realized there was a way to tie it directly to the BEHIND THE MASK/Leslie Vernon universe, Scott (Glosserman) got behind it right away, and has been supportive of both the film and of me constantly pelting him with 1st time producer/director questions.”
He added, “We’ve established that killers like Jason Voorhees and Michael Myers and Victor Crowley exist in Leslie’s world. Glen Echo is as real as Haddonfield. And in WAIT FOR IT, it’s established that Darcy is herself a Survivor Girl of an unrevealed killer in a similar town perhaps just down the road from Glen Echo. So if she exists in their world, and they exist in Leslie’s world… I’ll let the math wizards and philosophy majors connect the dots from there! Until then, you’re gonna have to… wait for it!”

Intense New ‘The Dog Stars’ Trailer Warns to Fear the Survivors Post-Apocalypse
The new trailer for epic survival thriller The Dog Stars warns to fear the survivors of the apocalypse.
Jacob Elordi (Frankenstein), Josh Brolin (Weapons), and Margaret Qualley (The Substance) try to maintain their humanity in the intense new trailer for Ridley Scott‘s survivor thriller, releasing in theaters on August 28, 2026.
The film is “set in a world where survival is instinct, but humanity is a choice. Scott tells the story of Hig, a young pilot who, together with a military survivalist, Bangley, has carved out an efficient but isolated homestead in a brutal post-apocalyptic world until a mysterious radio transmission spurs Hig to venture into the unknown in search of the hope and humanity he still believes exists.”
Guy Pearce, Benedict Wong, and Allison Janney also star.
The film is based on Peter Heller’s bestselling novel and written by Mark L. Smith (Overlord, The Revenant) and produced by Ridley Scott, Michael Pruss, Mark L. Smith, and Cliff Roberts.
Check out the new trailer and poster below, which emphasize the thrills in the upcoming survival thriller. But it’s one that’s also filled with hope.
“I think people will be surprised and engaged, actually. I would say, hmm… charmed as well,” Scott says of the film. “Although, there is some violence.”
