Jennifer Tilly Talks Future of the ‘Child’s Play’ Franchise

You just can’t keep a Good Guy down.

Franchise creator Don Mancini’s seventh installment Cult of Chucky is expected to be released this coming October, and it’ll be the fourth film in the series to star Jennifer Tilly. The actress, who recently popped up for a surprise appearance in the final act of Curse of Chucky, has a larger role in Cult, which very likely won’t be the last we see of the character.

Speaking with THR, Tilly teased the future of the franchise.

I’m super-good friends with [Don Mancini],” she told the outlet. “I think he’s going to put me in every Chucky movie until the end of time, and I honestly feel like there are going to be Chucky movies until the end of time because at the end of every movie he dies and comes back to life again.”

On her role in Cult of Chucky, Tilly said: “I play Tiffany. And I’m sure you don’t follow it but a few years ago, I played myself and Tiffany went into my body — Jennifer Tilly, international movie star — and Tiffany the doll, Tiffany’s soul went into Jennifer. So in this movie, I may be Tiffany or I may be Jennifer Tilly. We don’t know.”

“They introduce me as Jennifer Tilly, but I’m very Tiffany-esque,” she added. “I kill people. It’s really fun. The Chucky fans and horror film fans will really love that.

Here’s the official synopsis that came with the initial announcement trailer

“Confined to an asylum for the criminally insane for the past four years, Nica Pierce (Fiona Dourif) is erroneously convinced that she, not Chucky, murdered her entire family. But when her psychiatrist introduces a new therapeutic “tool” to facilitate his patients’ group sessions — an all-too-familiar “Good Guy” doll with an innocently smiling face — a string of grisly deaths begins to plague the asylum, and Nica starts to wonder if maybe she isn’t crazy after all.

Andy Barclay (Alex Vincent), Chucky’s now-grown-up nemesis from the original Child’s Play, races to Nica’s aid. But to save her he’ll have to get past Tiffany (Oscar-nominee Jennifer Tilly), Chucky’s long-ago bride, who will do anything, no matter how deadly or depraved, to help her beloved devil doll.”

Brad Dourif once again provides Chucky’s voice, while his daughter, Fiona Dourif, will be reprising her Curse of Chucky role. Also returning is Curse star Summer H. Howell.

Writer in the horror community since 2008. Editor in Chief of Bloody Disgusting. Owns Eli Roth's prop corpse from Piranha 3D. Has four awesome cats. Still plays with toys.

In addition to Leigh Whannell’s upcoming Universal Monsters movie Wolf Man, Julia Garner (The Royal Hotel) has also joined the cast of Weapons, THR has announced tonight.

Weapons is the new horror movie from New Line Cinema and director Zach Cregger (Barbarian), with Julia Garner joining the previously announced Josh Brolin (Dune 2).

The upcoming Weapons is from writer/director Zach Cregger, who will also produce alongside his Barbarian producing team: Roy Lee of Vertigo and J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules of BoulderLight Pictures. Vertigo’s Miri Yoon also produces.

The Hollywood Reporter teases, “Plot details for Weapons are being kept holstered but it is described as a multi and inter-related story horror epic that tonally is in the vein of Magnolia, the 1999 actor-crammed showcase from filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson.”

Cregger was a founding member and writer for the New York comedy troupe “The Whitest Kids U’Know,” which he started while attending The School of Visual Arts. The award-winning group’s self-titled sketch comedy show ran for five seasons on IFC-TV and Fuse. He was also a series regular on Jimmy Fallon’s NBC series “Guys with Kids” and the TBS hit series “Wrecked,” and was featured in a recurring role on the NBC series “About a Boy.”

Weapons will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures.
