Mondo’s New ‘Ghostbusters’ Poster is Amazing Even if You Hated the Remake

Published

Last year’s Ghostbusters remake was a major topic of discussion this week, as original star Dan Aykroyd very publicly expressed his belief that director Paul Feig spent way too much money on the film, essentially ensuring that it’d be a loss for Sony and thereby prevent sequels from becoming a reality. Indeed the franchise is in limbo in the wake of the reboot failing to make enough money to warrant an immediate follow-up, which is a bummer for Ghostbusters fans no matter how ya slice it.

But today is all about celebrating the decades-spanning franchise, as June 8th of every year has officially been dubbed Ghostbusters Day – for those wondering why, the original film was released into theaters on this day in 1984! Yesterday, reboot director Paul Feig teased that he had something fun to share for this year’s celebration, and he just came through on that promise by dropping an incredible poster on Twitter.

From the folks over at Mondo, this jaw-dropping new poster for Ghostbusters: Answer the Call is a visual stunner regardless of your thoughts on the movie itself, loaded with all the best imagery from the film and packed with all the charm and personality of Jillian Holtzmann herself. We’re not yet sure when it’s going to be made available to the public, but we’re told that one of the limited edition prints will be part of a giveaway being held over on Facebook live today.

Chris Columbus (Gremlins – writer, Home Alone – director) is headed back into the director’s chair for Thursday Murder Club, Amblin’s upcoming feature film adaptation of the same-titled novel written by Richard Osman. Variety first reported the news this morning.

It’s not a horror movie, mind you, but rather a star-studded murder-mystery. Think Rian Johnson’s Knives Out… only this particular murder-mystery is set in a retirement community!

Variety details, “The book, released in 2020, tells the story of four septuagenarian friends who live in a retirement community and solve cold cases for fun. When a shady property developer is found dead, the four find themselves in the middle of their first live crime.”

Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan and Ben Kingsley are “being eyed” to lead the cast!

Richard Osman’s 2020 novel was such a hit that it launched a franchise. Follow-up The Man Who Died Twice followed in 2021, with The Bullet That Missed coming along in 2022. And then there was The Last Devil to Die in 2023, with a fifth book in the series expected in 2025.
