The film is being described as Heart of Darkness… in deep space.
Deadline reports tonight that Tommy Lee Jones is in final negotiations to join Brad Pitt in Ad Astra, a futuristic sci-fi epic that James Gray co-wrote and will direct for New Regency.
The site notes that Ad Astra, which is “to the stars” in Latin, is the film’s working title.
Pitt will play Roy McBride, a slightly autistic space engineer.
Twenty years after his father left on a one-way mission to Neptune in order to find signs of extra-terrestrial intelligence, McBride travels through the solar system to find him and understand why his mission failed.
Production is set to begin in September.
