Rob Lowe Comes Face-to-Face With Bigfoot in New Reality Series, “The Lowe Files”

I think we all know that most, if not all of reality shows are staged. Sure, it’s not scripted but the conflict is laid out. Shows like “Storage Wars” allegedly pepper the discoveries while the actors in “Ghost Hunters” can just pretend to see something the camera doesn’t. It’s all in the form of entertainment. Actor Rob Lowe, on the other hand, is claiming authenticity with his new reality series “The Lowe Files” in which he and his two sons probe into a slew of mysterious phenomena.

EW caught up with the star of such films/shows as Wayne’s World and “Parks and Recreation” who talked about the show’s integrity and his run-in with Bigfoot.

“[Laughs]. Any time the phrase “Rob Lowe investigates wood apes” is in the zeitgeist, you know you’re in for a special treat. [These are] really cool, interesting, outrageous, literally unbelievable stories being investigated. If you put Anthony Bourdain in a blender with Scooby Doo, you’d get the tone of this show.

‘We captured some incredible [footage]. Our first episode is about poltergeists in one of the most notoriously haunted structures in America. Nothing is staged, nothing is trick-cut — no B.S,” he promises. “I believe there are probably ghosts out there. The rest of [what we found I accepted on a] case-by-case basis, but we had an incredible encounter with what locals call the wood ape, which is in the Ozark Mountains… I was lying on the ground thinking I was going to be killed.

“…I’m fully aware that I sound like a crazy, Hollywood kook right now.”

He continues talking about his inspiration and the series’ tone: “I grew up watching Leonard Nimoy’s In Search Of… I loved it. People always ask me what my guilty pleasure is on television, and my guilty pleasures are Ancient Aliens and Finding Bigfoot. I don’t hate-watch them, but I also don’t watch them as a total believer. I watch them hoping to believe, because a world in which Bigfoot exists and aliens exist, to me, is more interesting and fun. That’s the spirit of our show.”

The Lowe Files premieres its first of nine episodes Wednesday, Aug. 2 on A&E.

While you wait for Alien: Romulus, the folks over at Devilworks have cooked up their own slice of “mockbuster” fun with Alien Hunt, and we’re debuting the trailer here on BD this morning.

This brand-new sci-fi horror from director Aaron Mirtes (The Bigfoot Trap, Painted in Blood) is set for its US premiere on May 14, and you can find it on digital thanks to Devilworks.

You can exclusively watch the official trailer for Alien Hunt below, which looks to combine elements of Alien and Predator. This particular “mockbuster” has very little interest in hiding its inspirations, with the alien designs plucked straight out of H.R. Giger’s beautiful brain. Hey, if you’re going to pull from other movies, might as well take from the all-time greats!

In Alien Hunt, “On a hunting trip in the wilderness, a group of siblings discovers an abandoned military outpost on their land, but is it what it seems?

“Their trip takes a sinister turn when they find themselves facing off against a relentless army of extra-terrestrial beings. Suddenly, the hunters become the hunted.

“The formidable squad of alien soldiers will stop at nothing to wipe out the enemy and in an all-out, brutal battle for survival, it’s kill or be killed in Alien Hunt.”
