If it’s Halloween, it once again must be Saw.
The latest installment in the Saw franchise, simply titled Jigsaw, is headed to theaters on October 27, 2017, so we expect to see a trailer real soon. In the meantime, EW got their hands on the first image from the film tonight, showing actress Laura Vandervoort’s character in a very uncomfortable position.
“Bodies are turning up, and they’re linked to Jigsaw — or a Jigsaw copycat,” co-director Peter Spierig told the site. “We’ve got some pretty wild traps in the film — we don’t shy away from the gore. It’s such a perfect Halloween scarefest. It’s perhaps not quite as vicious and more fun.”
The new chapter in the long-running saga has been rated “R” for “Grisly Bloody Violence and Torture.”
We understand that neither Costas Mandylor nor Cary Elwes will be returning to play their respective characters, who both ended up becoming Jigsaw apprentices in earlier installments. As for the original Jigsaw himself, Tobin Bell will be back in some capacity.
The cast also includes Mandela Van Peebles, Laura Vandervoort, Brittany Allen, Callum Keith Rennie, Matt Passmore, Hannah Emily Anderson, Josiah Black, Shaquan Lewis, Michael Bolsvert, and James Gomez.
Jigsaw was written by Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger (Piranha 3D and Sorority Row). In the director’s chairs were the Spierig brothers, Peter and Michael, who brought us Daybreakers and Predestination.
Franchise staples Mark Burg and Oren Koules returned to produce.
