Next ‘Ghostbusters’ Live Action Film Could Digitally Resurrect Egon

Is this a really weird trend? I think it might be really weird.

Ivan Reitman has recently expressed a desire to *potentially* unite the casts of the original Ghostbusters and the reboot Ghostbusters for a future live-action film, as he feels that fans of the franchise were bummed that the original characters did not appear in Paul Feig’s film.

Good idea? Bad idea? Well, we’ll let you guys answer that one.

If a future Ghostbusters film did indeed mash up the old and new, that’d presumably mean that Egon Spengler would not be part of the fun. After all, Harold Ramis unfortunately passed away back in 2014. But stranger things have happened in Hollywood.

At Comic-Con yesterday, Reitman was asked by a fan about the potential of using CG technology to either resurrect or de-age actors in such a film. His answer?

It’s possible… it’s something we’re thinking of,” said Reitman. “HINT.”

A new live action film and an animated movie are both currently in development, with one of the two likely being released in time for 2019’s 35th anniversary of the brand.

Landon recently teased on Twitter, “This is my love letter to DePalma.”

Jillian Jacobs and Chris Roach wrote the script.

Michael Bay, Jason Blum, Brad Fuller and Cameron Fuller — “who brought the script in to Platinum Dunes” — are producing the upcoming Drop. Sam Lerner is an executive producer.
